Andhra Pradesh tops chart in GATE 2013 results

As the GATE 2013 results announced yesterday, Andhra Pradesh tops the list with 22,476 qualified candidates. More than 1.36 lakh people appeared for the exam from the state. AP is followed by Uttar Pradesh where 22,400 candidates got qualified, Bihar and Maharashtra with 9,820 qualified candidates each and Kerala with 8,992 qualified candidates.
In total, 13% per cent candidates got qualified for GATE 2013 out of 9.8 lakh people who appeared for it. This year, however, the number of qualified number has dipped significantly. Usually, in the previous years, the figures were between 13 and 17%.
At the same time, the number of candidates registered for the exam increased sharply from 4.6 lakh in 2010 to more than 12 lakh in 2012.
Among the participants who appeared for the exam, 81% appeared for four papers out of 21 namely, Computer Science and Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The GATE 2013 results were declared on March 15. The online test of the exam was conducted in 572 centres in 123 towns and cities on January 20, 2013. The offline exam was conducted in 992 centres in 183 towns and cities on February 10, 2013.
