GATE 2017 - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, commonly known as GATE, is an online entrance exam schedule to be conducted on February 4, 5, 11 and 12 for screening candidates for providing admissions to M.E./M.Tech/Ph.D in IITs/NITs/CFITs and other universities in India, along with recruitment purpose in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like BHEL, GAIL, ONGC, IOCL, etc. The computer based test GATE 2017 will be jointly monitored and administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The organising committee of GATE 2017 is IIT Roorkee. The exam to be conducted in two sessions – morning (9 am to 12 pm) and afternoon (2 pm to 5 pm) at more than 680 designated test centres across India. The online question booklet of GATE 2017 will have multiple choice as well as numerical questions. While solving numerical questions, candidates have to use virtual calculator on screen. GATE 2017 will be held in 23 disciplines of engineering and science, and is expected to be taken up by around 9 lakh candidates. Candidates who will appear in GATE 2017 can download their admit card from January 4. The result of GATE 2017 will be declared on March 27 after 5 pm. Candidates can use their GATE 2017 Score for a period of three years for PG engineering admissions across the participating institutes. PSU Recruitment through GATE 2017
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) who consider GATE 2017 score for recruitment has announced their application process. GATE 2017 Admit Card
The admit card of GATE 2017 will be released by IIT Roorkee on January 4. Candidates can download GATE admit card 2017 from the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) window till February 12, 2017. To download the GATE admit card, candidates have to enter their enrolment ID or registered email ID, password and captcha. It must be noted that they must take colour printout of admit card and carry it to the exam centres along with any one of the original identification proofs including Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, Valid College ID, Employee identification card and Driving License, but it necessary to carry that ID proof whose information was entered in GATE application form 2017. GATE 2017 questions booklet will have two different types of questions in various papers.
(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) -These types of questions will be objective in nature having four options, out of which candidates have to choose one correct option. These types of questions will either carry 1 or 2 marks.
(ii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) – These types of questions will be based on mathematical calculation. There will be no answer options for numerical type questions, and candidates have to enter the obtained answer using virtual keypad and calculator. The answer for these types of questions will be a real number, and candidates are advised to give the answer up to a maximum of three decimal places.
Design of GATE Questions: The questions paper of GATE 2017 is designed to test candidates’ conceptual clarity and understanding of basics of the subject. The computation based questions will test their understating about concept implementation and its result on various parameters.

GATE 2017 Syllabus
Each discipline of GATE 2017 has different syllabus. The examination authority, IIT Roorkee,has released discipline-wise GATE 2017 syllabus. Candidates are advised to download the syllabus as per their discipline and prepare accordingly for the exam. The GATE syllabus 2017 for General Aptitude paper will be common for all candidates. The syllabus of General Aptitude will be based on verbal and numerical ability. The verbal ability will include questions from English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction, while numerical ability section will have questions from numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation. GATE 2017 Exam Centres
GATE 2017 is scheduled to be held on February 4, 5, 11 & 12, 2017 in computer based mode at more than 680 test centres located in 194 cities across India. All the GATE 2017 Exam Centres are listed under each zone and are managed by the respective GATE 2017 Zonal Centre. Also, there are six international cities where GATE 2017 is scheduled to be conducted, which are Abu Dhabi/Dubai (UAE), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore. GATE 2017 Answer Key
GATE Answer Key 2017 will be released officially by IIT Roorkee, the conducting IIT for GATE 2017. The Institute will provide question booklet and separate Answer Keys for all 23 papers. GATE 2017 Result
The result of GATE 2017 will be declared on March 27, 2017 at 05:00 pm. The GATE result 2017 will be announced for only those candidates, who will score equal to or more than the specified qualifying marks as per their category. Each subject of GATE 2017 will have different qualifying marks. Candidates can check their GATE 2017 result in online mode only. The score will be valid for three years.

GATE 2017 Score Card
The score card of GATE 2017 will be released on March 27 along with declaration of result. Candidates can download their GATE scorecard 2017 till May 26. The examination authority will not issue hard copies of the scorecards; therefore candidates have to download it within the prescribed dates.
Note: In case any candidate requires a soft copy of their GATE Score Card after May 26, they can get it by paying a fee of Rs.500 (five hundred only) on the GOAPS portal till December 31.
The GATE Score Card 2017 will be released for all candidates, who have secured greater than or equal to the qualifying mark as per their category. The score of GATE 2017 will be calculated based on the actual marks obtained by the candidate for single session papers and normalized marks for multi-session papers.

Based on the GATE 2017 score, candidates can either apply for M.E./M.Tech/ Ph.D. admissions in IITs/NITs/CFITs, and other universities in India or recruitment purpose in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like BHEL, GAIL, ONGC, IOCL, etc. Only those candidates who have obtained equal to or more than the specified cut off score (as announced by the PSU) can apply for the declared vacancies. GATE 2017 Cutoff
The cutoff score of GATE 2017 is the minimum marks that must be secured by candidates to qualify the entrance exam. Cut off score is meant to delimit the number of candidates and to select only those who have secured qualifying marks as per their category. GATE 2017 will not have any common counselling as it is an aptitude test designed to test capacity and knowledge of the applicants. Each institute will conduct separate counselling procedure for qualified candidates. They must check admission notifications of the institutes they wish to apply for.

Year-wise Statistics (2006-2016) of GATE candidates
GATE 2017 Application Form:
The application form of GATE 2017 was available in online mode from September 1 to October 10, 2016. Candidates were advised to read the prospectus carefully to ascertain their eligibility and application procedure before beginning the online registration of GATE 2017. Basically, the registration process of GATE 2017 was a five-stage procedure. The first stage was registration for the exam where candidates filled in the on-line application and obtained the registration number. At stage 2, candidates were asked to fill personal and academic details. In the next stage, candidates uploaded their photographs, signature and documents as required. Stage 4 included making payment for the exam through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking or Bank Challan. During the last stage, candidates have to take printout of confirmation page of filled -in GATE application form 2017 and preserve it for future purposes. GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) 2017: The stepwise procedure on ‘How to Fill GATE application form 2017’ is given below.
Step 1 - Registration: Candidates had to register first by providing a valid email ID and mobile number along with a password.
Step 2 – Logging and Filling the GATE 2017 Application Form: Candidates had to enter all the details – personal, academic and address, etc. They were required to fill the details of a valid photo ID that they need to carry along with the GATE 2017 Admit Card to the exam hall.
Step 3 – Uploading Photograph, Signature, Thumb Impression and other Documents: Candidates uploaded their photograph, signature, thumb impression and degree certificate, category certificate if applicable and medical certificate in case of PwD candidates. Final year students uploaded a scanned image of third year (fifth/sixth semester) mark sheet instead of the degree certificate.
Step 4 – Payment of Application Fees: The fee to be paid was Rs.1,500 (Rs.750 for SC/ST/Pwd/Female candidates). Payment had to be made through net banking or e-challan. Additional bank charges were applicable as per norms. The fee was US$ 50 for all international students.
Step 5 – Candidates were required to download and print the GATE 2017 Application Form for future reference.
