GATE 2017 Application FormGATE 2017 Application Form - IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017, has released the list of candidates, who are either rejected or considered provisionally eligible to appear for the national level entrance exam.IIT Roorkee made available GATE application form 2017 from September 1 onwards. The last date for GATE 2017 application form was extended up to October 10, 2016 (till 11.00 am). Earlier,  the last date to fill GATE application form was October 4, 2016. GATE 2017 application form procedure involved registration, generating GOAPS Enrollment ID and password, filling personal and academic details, uploading photograph, signature and left thumb impression along with other documents, etc. Candidates, who wished to apply for admission to M.Tech programmes at the IITs and NITs or PSUs recruiting through GATE, applied online for GATE 2017.  GATE 2017 Application Form - Important Point

  • Candidates will have to enter three exam centres of their choice. Unlike earlier, this year, there is no restriction on choosing the exam centres/cities from the same zone. Candidates can choose three exam centres in any city across India. 

  • They must also enter the details of a valid Photo ID that has to be carried by them to the exam hall along with the GATE 2017 Admit Card.

Checklist for filling up GATE Application Form 2017:

  • Personal Details as per the certificates to be uploaded.

  • Address for Communication (including PIN code),

  • Academic Qualifications – College and degree

  • GATE paper, GATE 2017 examination cities,

  • Details of Valid Photo ID

  • Photograph as specified

  • Signature as specified

  • Scanned copy of Degree Certificate or Certificate from Principal/HODs in pdf format.

  • Scanned copy of Category/PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format.

How to Fill GATE 2017 Application Form:

 

Step 1. Registration:

 

Candidates must enter details of a valid email address, mobile number and a GOAPS password of their choice

  • They must ensure that the GOAPS password is unique and must avoid using their name, date of birth, or some string of numbers or letters like 12345, abcd, etc. This is to ensure that no one can guess the password and to avoid misuse.

  • All communication will be sent to the registered Email ID and the Mobile number. In case of foreign students, all the communication will be done through email. 

GOAPS Enrolment ID:

Once a candidate registers successfully, an email containing the GOAPS Enrolment ID will be received through their registered Email ID. This ID has to be used for future logins to fill the GATE Application Form 2017, download GATE 2017 Admit Card, check the GATE 2017 result and download the GATE 2017 score card.

 

Important: Candidates can enter data, “Save” partially filled form, “Logout”, and resume filling in by logging in again before October 4, 2016 which is the last date to fill the Application Form for GATE 2017. 

Step 2. Filling in the GATE Application Form 2017: 

  • Candidates must enter their Personal data, details of their Academic qualifications as asked and the address for communication

  • They must enter three GATE 2017 Exam Centres of their preference.

  • They must also enter the details of a valid Photo ID that will be carried by them to the exam hall.

Step 3. Uploading Photograph, Signature, Left Thumb Impression and other documents

After successful payment, a unique “Fee Payment Number” will be generated which must be saved by the candidate. This number must be entered before the final submission of the Application Form for GATE 2017.

 

Note: Candidates who belong to SC or ST or PwD category have to upload a valid documentary evidence for concession in fees.

 

Payment Issues: If your payment is not showing successful first time, please do not make another payment immediately. Wait for two days and check your application form status again, to see if your earlier payment has been successful. If it is not successful, then only make another payment. Any extra payment received by IIT Roorkee shall be refunded after October 5, 2016.

GATE 2017 Application Form Submission:
  • Candidates must use the preview option to check the details before final submission.

  • After pressing the “Confirm and Final Submit” button , candidates cannot edit or make any changes in the GATE application form 2017

  • Candidates need not to send any documents to the GATE 2017 office.

Candidates can also check their GATE 2017 application form status, where they can cross-check their application status with options like - received, under scrutiny, accepted, defect status, status after rectification, rejected with valid reasons, admit card ready for download, etc.

 

Documents required for filling GATE Application Form 2017:

 

1. Photograph:

  • Candidates must take a colour photograph in a white or a very light background in a professional studio and upload it along with the GATE 2017 application form.

  • The photograph must be taken after August 1, 2016 and should show the face of the candidates occupying about 50% of the area in the photograph looking into the camera directly.

  • The main features of the candidate’s face must not be covered by hair of the head, any cloth or any shadow and the forehead, eyes, nose and chin should be clearly visible in the photograph.

  • Candidates with spectacles must ensure that there is no glare on the glasses. Such candidates can upload a photograph without glasses too.

  • Only clear glasses are permitted and photos with goggle, sunglasses or tinted glasses will not be accepted.

  • Mobile photos are not permitted and will be rejected.

  • The photograph must be in JPEG Format in a standard 3.5 cm (Width) × 4.5 cm (Height) print

  • The maximum pixel resolution must be 480 × 640 (0.3 Mega pixels) while the minimum pixel resolution 240 × 320.

2. Signature:

  • A rectangular box of size 2 cm (height) × 7 cm (Width) must be drawn on an A4 white paper.

  • Candidates must put their signature in black or dark blue ink within this box.

  • The signature must be digitally image scanned by a professional using a scanner, and cropped to the box professionally.

  • The file must be in JPEG image format with a maximum pixel resolution for the image of 160 × 560 pixels and a minimum pixel resolution of 80 × 280.

  • Mobile photos are not permitted.

  • Signature should NOT be in Capital letters or in any ink other than Black or Blue.

3. Thumb Impression:

  • Candidates must draw a rectangular box of size 3 cm × 5 cm (Height x Width) on an A4 white paper.

  • They must mark their Left thumb impression within this box using a blue or black stamp pad.

  • Candidates may upload their Right thumb impression, if it is difficult to access the left thumb for any reason.

  • For candidates unable to provide thumb impression for any reason, an impression of any finger will be allowed

  • The signature must be digitally image scanned by a professional using a scanner, and cropped to the box professionally.

  • The file must be in JPEG image format with a maximum pixel resolution for the image of 160 × 560 pixels and a minimum pixel resolution of 80 × 280.

  • Mobile photos are not permitted.

4. Photo ID Card: Candidates must keep any one of the following ready to fill the details

  • Driving License,

  • Passport, PAN Card,

  • Voter ID,

  • Aadhaar UID,

  • College ID,

  • Employee Identification Card,

  • Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address

  • International Students must enter details of their passport only.

5. For Candidates in their final year:

  • A copy of the Marks Sheet of the previous semester/year or mark sheet for section A of AMIE in case of professional equivalent qualifications.

  • This must be in pdf format only

6. Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate/Course Completion Certificate:

  • Candidates who have completed their qualifying degree must upload this.

  • The file must be in PDF format only

7. Caste Certificate if applicable: This is in PDF format only

 

8. Disability Certificate if applicable: This is in PDF format only

Note: International candidates are not required to attach PwD (person with disability) certificate and category (SC/ST) is also not applicable.

 

Problems While Logging into GOAPs?

 

1: Forgot Enrolment ID or not received their Enrolment ID via email: Candidates must use this option and enter their registered mobile number and the GOAPS Password to receive the GATE 2017 Enrolment ID via SMS.

2. Forgot GOAPS password: Candidates must use this option and enter their registered Mobile Number and Enrolment ID. The details will be verified and a new GOAPS password will be sent via SMS/email.

3. Forgot GATE 2017 Enrolment ID as well as password: In such a case candidates must contact the GATE 2017 Zonal office if they have already made the payment.  If they are yet to pay the     application fee, they must enrol afresh.

 

How to Check  GATE 2017 Application Status?

 

After enrolling to GATE 2017, candidates can check the status of application form. The steps involved in checking the GATE 2017 application status are:

  • Candidates can log in through official website of GOAPs.

  • Candidates need to enter various details including their GATE 2017 Enrolment ID/Email ID and password.

  • GATE 2017 Application status will be displayed.

  • In case of defects, candidates can take suggested corrective action against application forms.

GATE 2017 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) related to application form:

 

Q: How do I make online application fee payment for GATE 2017?

Ans: After filling all fields in the online application form, candidates need to choose online payment option. 

At this step, you have to choose a bank. Login with your internet banking credentials and confirm the payment.

Once the fee payment is confirmed, you will be redirected back to the GATE 2017 application page where you would be required to fill in all the details.

 

After the completion of GATE 2017 online fee payment, a PDF file will be generated with the following pages:

Page 1: Application form with the necessary details of the candidates like name, date of birth (DoB), scanned photograph, scanned thumb impression, sex, category (GE/OBC/SC/ST), PwD (Y/N), full contact address, mobile number, email id, etc.

Page 2: Bachelor degree certificate or previous semester/year grade sheet or mark sheet if you are in final year (depending on your eligibility status)

Page 3: The uploaded caste certificate

Page 4: The uploaded PwD certificate

Page 5: Online payment details like your bank account number, bank name, transaction id, date and time of transaction, amount paid, etc.

 

You need to either save the PDF containing these details or take a printout of the entire PDF file for your future reference/use.

 

Q: How to pay GATE 2017 application form fee through e-challan?

Ans: If you select the e-challan option, then you will have to print the generated challan and will have to go to a branch of State Bank of India and pay.

 

Q: My power/internet connection failed during online payment. What do I do?

Ans: When you can get back online, first check the status of your payment on the GATE application website.

If the payment was received by GATE, you can continue the process of printing the application form.

If the payment was not received by GATE, you have to start with the payment step again, to complete the payment.

 

Q: If I am in the final year of my degree programme, but do not yet have my marksheet (transcript) of my previous year/semester, what certificate do I upload?

Ans: If a candidate is in the final year of his/her degree programme, but does not have official marksheet of previous semester/year issued at the time of application, he/she may upload a provisional certificate issued by the Institute mentioning that the candidate is studying in the final year of the programme. In case, no provisional certificate is issued by the institute, a letter with signature and seal issued by the Head of Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department, where the candidate is studying, must be uploaded.

 

Q: If I have completed the degree in 2016, but my institute has still not provided me with the degree certificate/provisional certificate, and also official mark sheet of 7th/8th semester is not available yet, which certificate should I upload as eligibility certificate?

Ans: You should either upload the filled and signed provisional certificate letter or upload the original 6th semester marksheet issued by the institute.

 

Q: Only SC/ST/PwD candidates have been asked to upload the category certificates. What about the OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates? Do they have to upload the category certificate too?

Ans: Category certificate is required only to decide the rate for the application fee. As far as the GATE 2017 examination is concerned, only SC/ST/PwD candidates and all women candidates qualify for a reduced fee. That is the purpose of asking for the certificate. This benefit does not apply to candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and UAE.

 

Q: Would I be able to change my paper and examination city after application submission?

Ans: You can’t change of GATE 2017 examination paper after the submission of application form, but you can change the examination city, which can be done till November 16, 2016 with a fee of Rs. 400 (four hundred only), which is to be paid online using GOAPS.
