What to carry on the JEE Main 2017 exam day?

JEE Main 2017 Admit Card- Don’t forget the admit card as you won’t be allowed entry to the exam without it. During the exam, you will need to show the invigilator the JEE Main Admit card so that your identity is ascertained. Check whether the copy is in good condition. Always carry 2 copies so that you have a backup in case one is torn or is missing.

Photo Identity Proof- It is better to carry the Aadhaar Card in case you are asked for a photo ID. If you don’t have one, then carry any valid Photo ID along with the admit card.

Disability Certificate – Candidates falling under this category must carry the PwD certificate in the prescribed format as given in the JEE Main Brochure under the Appendix 9. The disability certificate has to be issued by a recognized authority. Candidates who have 40% disability will be required either to submit a request for scribe or reader or opt to choose their own scribe

Clipboard- This is for the offline exam candidates only. Carry a clean one with no marks or scribbling on it that may amount to cheating and can get you debarred from the exam. Since the desks provided at your exam centre may not be convenient and you don’t want to damage your answer sheet; it’s best to carry a clip board to counter this.

What to carry if you are appearing for JEE Main Paper 2

Since the drawing paper will require sketching and drawing by you, you can carry the following materials

  1. A geometry box

  2. Eraser

  3. Pencils

  4. Colour pencils

  5. Clipboard

  6. Colour pencils or crayons

What not to carry to the JEE Main exam hall?

As per last year’s reports, students were prohibited from wearing ornaments. There was stringent security with frisking and usage of metal detectors. So this year it is expected to be no different. So what you should not carry or wear can be summarised

No need to carry Blue/Black Ball Point Pen or pencil  – This will be provided in the exam hall, only for the offline exam candidates by CBSE. Use of pencil is strictly prohibited. Even if you are carrying pens and pencils, you will be asked to leave it outside.

Don’t wear watches – digital ones. Analog ones are allowed

No jewellery – earrings, lockets etc. Candidates were asked to remove them last year. Since there is no safe place to keep them, forgo wearing them for the exam.

Bags are not allowed inside. So, avoid carrying them outside.

The authorities at the exam hall will not be responsible for your bags, materials. However it is not possible to go with just the admit card, and photo ID as well as a clipboard. It is hot outside so a bottle of water is mandatory to carry to the exam hall to be used outside the centre. Therefore carry a small bag with no valuables – just some water and the JEE Main Admit Card, Photo ID. Lastly, the clipboard. You can leave the bag outside in the area provided for the same by the authorities.

  • Calculators

  • Slide rules

  • Log Tables

  • Electronic watches with facilities of calculators

  • Printed or written materials
