KCET 2024 Eligibility Criteria [General Conditions of Eligibility for All]
The KCET eligibility criteria are divided into two main categories which include educational qualification and nativity. Candidates can check the KCET exam eligibility criteria 2024 below.
KCET Nationality
Candidates applying for KCET 2024 must be a citizen of India.
KCET Eligibility 2024 - Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have passed their class 12/PUC examination. Candidates who have appeared in their class 12/PUC examination in 2024 and waiting for their results can also apply for the KCET exam.
Students who have passed their qualifying examination/class 12/PUC from Karnataka State Open University are NOT eligible to apply for KCET 2024.
Candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in their class 12 along with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Electronics/ Computer Science as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study

Applicant should have studied in one or more Government or Government recognized educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from 1st standard to 2nd PUC / 12th standard as of 1st July 2024 and must have appeared and passed either SSLC / 10th standard or 2nd PUC / 12th standard examination from Karnataka State.
Candidates should have studied and passed either the 1st and 2nd year Pre-University Examination or 11th and 12th standard exam within the State of Karnataka from an Educational Institution run or recognized by the State Government and either of the parents should have studied in Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years.
A candidate who is the son or daughter of defence personnel who has worked continuously in Karnataka for a minimum period of one year in Karnataka during the Two years of study of candidates in PUC / 11th and 12th Standard course.
Wards of serving or retired employee in the Central Armed Police Force Service, whose parents at the time of joining the CAPF Service (Central Armed Police Force) had mentioned that his/her home town was in Karnataka, has to submit proof of his/her domicile from the Record Office of the CAPF Unit where the Parent’s service record is maintained. In this category, the candidates must have cleared the qualifying examination from a recognized University or Board or any other institution located anywhere in India.

Candidates fulfilling the below KCET eligibility criteria are also eligible for government seats.
Migrant Candidates of Jammu and Kashmir
Candidates who are children of migrants of Jammu and Kashmir are required to show proof of migration which they can get from the jurisdictional District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner” of any state in India.
Criteria Related to Mother Tongue of Candidates
Candidates whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava must have resided and studied for a duration of 7 years between 1st and 12th standards in disputed Kannada speaking area of South Solapur or Akkalkot or Jeth or Gadhinglaj Taluks of Maharashtra State or Kasargod or Hosadurga Taluks of Kerala State. Such candidates will have to undergo and clear the Kannada Language test.
Students who have studied 10 academic years in the Kannada language from 1st to 10th standard outside Karnataka need not appear for the Kannada Language Test conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Such candidates must have studied and passed the qualifying exam from any recognized educational institution.
Children/ Ward of Members of Parliament
Children of Members of Parliament who are representing Karnataka must have cleared high school from any institution located in any part of India.

Candidates of State and Central Government Employees
In case a candidate is a son/daughter of an employee of the Union Government or an employee of the Union or Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking and his/her parents are likely to be transferred to any part of the country and have worked in Karnataka for a minimum period of 1 year in Karnataka during the 2 year period i.e. 11th and 12th standard of the candidate. Such candidates must have cleared the qualifying exam from any recognized educational institute in the state of Karnataka.
Children of serving or retired employees of the Union Government or employees of Union or Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking where the employee had mentioned to the employer at the time of joining service that his/her domicile was any place in Karnataka or had studied in any recognized educational institute or institutions in Karnataka for a minimum period of 7 years; and was or is liable to be transferred to any part of India according to the terms and conditions of his employment. It is imperative for the candidates (in such a case) to have cleared the qualifying exam from a University or Board or any other institution located in any part of India.

Yes, there is a specific eligibility clause for children of serving or retired government employees. This includes those belonging to the All India Service of Karnataka cadre and those of the Karnataka State Government who have served or are serving outside the State of Karnataka during the period corresponding to the candidate's study outside the state from 1st standard to 2nd PUC or 12th.
5. What is the eligibility clause for KEA (Karnataka Examination Authority) in terms of language and domicile?
The candidate and either of their parents must have their mother tongue as Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava. Additionally, one of the parents should be domiciled in the state of Karnataka. Such candidates should have passed the qualifying examination from a University, Board, or any other Institution located outside Karnataka.
6. What is eligibility clause in KCET
For a candidate to be eligible, either the candidate or one of their parents should have Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava as their mother tongue, and at least one of the parents must have been domiciled in the state of Karnataka. Additionally, the candidate should have completed their qualifying examination at a University, Board, or other educational institution located outside Karnataka, subject to certain conditions.
7. Can other state students apply for KCET?
No. Other state students cannot apply for KCET. This exam is conducted only for the students who have Karnataka Domicile. If other state students want to apply to any private colleges in Karnataka, then they must apply for the COMEDK exam.

In Karnataka, lateral entry to the B.Pharm program is possible through lateral entry scheme. However, whether KCET specifically offers lateral entry to B.Pharm programs depends on KEA, which conducts the KCET exam.
KCET offers admissions to undergraduate courses in Karnataka. It may not offer lateral entry directly into the B.Pharm program.
For lateral entry, you should have completed D.Pharm from a recognized institution with a minimum percentage. Or any specific entrance exam or admission process set by the university.
