GATE 2014

GATE 2014GATE 2014 has been announced by the Organizing Institute - IIT Kharagpur. GATE 2014 namely the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various UG subjects in Engineering and Technology of the applicants. GATE 2014 Applications will be available from September 2, 2013 till October 1, 2013.

The GATE 2014 Exam was scheduled from Feb 1 to March 2, 2014 and the Result of GATE 2014 will be declared on March 28, 2014. Candidates can get all the information about GATE 2014 below starting from the exam details, application forms to the results.

GATE 2014 scores will be primarily used for admissions purposes to post-graduate engineering programmes (eg. M.E/ M.Tech/ direct Ph.D), though increasingly they are also being used by Public sector units for their recruitment process.

GATE 2014 Zonal Centres:


GATE is administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) listed below for the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

The IITs and IISc have been segregated as zonal centres and exam centres listed under each zone for the ease of students and alike. The list and websites of the zonal centras can be viewed below on this page.


GATE 2014 Eligibility:

Note: Candidates must submit the Certificate from Principal duly signed and stamped as per specifications.

GATE 2014 Exam Mode
: All the 22 papers in GATE 2014 will be online from 2014.

GATE 2014 Exam Pattern

  • Candidates will be tested on their comprehension and application skills, recall as well as analytical abilities

  • Candidates will have to answer Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Questions.

  • General Aptitude Questions are compulsory for all GATE 2014 exam papers

  • GATE 2014 XE Paper will have a compulsory section in Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude along with any two of XE sections B to G.

  • GATE 2014 XL Paper Pattern will have a compulsory section inSection H in Chemistry and General Aptitude along with any two of XL sections I to M

Marking: Negative marking is prevalent in GATE 2014 with a deduction of 1/3 marks for a wrong answer to a 1-mark multiple-choice question and 2/3 marks for every wrong answer to the 2 mark questions.

GATE 2014 Application Form: Through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS)

  • Candidates have to register for GATE 2014 first by providing a valid Email ID and a currently in use mobile number along with a password

  • The login Id for GATE 2014 will be be mailed to the candidates.

  • Personal Particulars of the candidate has to be entered.

  • Scanned photograph and signature as per specifications have to be uploaded.

  • GATE 2014 Application fee to be paid online or through Challan

  • Download and print the GATE 2014 Online Application after submission

  • Send the printout of the GATE 2014 Online Application form after affixing a photograph and signing in the specified place along with the requiste Documents to the zonal centre as per the address slip printed along with the application.

GATE 2014 Application Fee:

  • General/OBC-NCL Male Candidates: Rs 1500

  • SC / ST / PD category Candidates: Rs 750

  • Women Candidates: Rs 750

GATE 2014 Application Fee Payment:

Online through Net Banking OR Through downloaded and printed Challans at any branch of  SBI or Syndicate Bank.

  • Last Date for GATE 2014 Online Application Submission: October 3, 2013

  • Receipt of Printout of GATE 2014 Online Application Form at Zonal Centre: By October 17, 2013 (extended date from October 10, 2013)

  • Request for Change in the GATE 2014 Exam Centre: From November 15 to 25, 2013

  • Download of GATE 2014 Admit Card: December 18, 2013

  • GATE 2014 Examination: On February 2 , 15 & 16 , March 1 & 2, 2014

GATE 2014 Counseling Process:

Candidates have to apply individually to the institutions/ universities where they wish to avail admissions for the post graduate engineering programmes as per the admission call of each institute/university.
Counselling will be on the basis of the candidate’s performance in GATE 2014 and academic performance (qualifying degree) in the ratio 70:30.

Candidates who will attempt the life sciences papers (XE or XL), will have to appear for an interview/written test) by the admitting institution. In such cases, the weightage for GATE scores should not be less than 70%. The minimum passing percentage of marks in the interview will be specified by the admitting institution.

IITs: Candidates have to apply to the individual IITs as per the admission call given by the respective IITs. The admission call is generally given in mid March after the release of the GATE scores. Application process goes on till mid April followed by counselling and allotment of seats.

NITS: Since 2012, the counselling and admission process for twenty two NITS, two IITs and several centrally funded technical institutions have been streamlined  through the Centralized Counseling for M. Tech./M. Plan (CCMT). The organizing institute is MNIT Jaipur and applications for 2013 were from April 15 to May 18 with May 22 being the last date for locking of choices. June 11 to 14, 2013 was the first counselling round followed by the second rounds from June 25 to 27, the third from July 8 to 12, 2013 and fourth was scheduled on July 23 to 26, 2013.
